Start of a new era for ABT Sportsline in the DTM

The start of the season at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on 26/27 April marks the beginning of a new era in the DTM for ABT Sportsline: after 25 years with Audi, the most successful active DTM team will compete with cars from the Italian cult brand Lamborghini in the most important German racing series for the first time.

But it is not only the brand change that makes the 2025 DTM season a special one for ABT Sportsline. “Exactly 75 years ago my father Johann Abt competed in his first car race,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of the ABT Group. “Since then, motor racing in all its facets has been part of our company. We are proud of all the successes that the almost 100 racing drivers have achieved in our name. We will do everything in our power to continue this success story.”

To date, ABT Sportsline has won a total of ten championship titles and 78 races in the DTM. Added to this are 259 podium finishes, 92 pole positions and 85 fastest laps. “This is an impressive record and at the same time an obligation for everyone in the team, because we also want to fight for victories with the new brand and, ideally, be in the running for the championship at the end,” says ABT Motorsport Director Martin Tomczyk. “We have prepared intensively. With Mirko Bortolotti and Nicki Thiim, we have two strong drivers and a great team. We are happy that the season is finally going to start. It will be an interesting weekend, with two performance pit stops on Sunday adding an extra element of excitement. A key factor will be making the most of the new Pirelli tyres, especially in Qualifying.”

“We also want to fight for victories with the new brand and, ideally, be in the running for the championship at the end.”, says ABT Motorsport Director Martin Tomczyk.

“We learned a lot about this during the test two and a half weeks ago,” says defending champion Mirko Bortolotti (Italy), who will contest his first DTM races for ABT Sportsline next weekend. “I’m looking forward to the start of the new season and especially to the fans, who are always very special in the DTM.”

“Tyres are a hot topic,” says also team-mate Nicki Thiim (Denmark). “The guys in Kempten had a lot of data from the Oschersleben test to analyse and make the right decisions. Now it’s finally time to show what’s possible on the track.”

The team brought a total of 46 gigabytes of data back to Kempten from the official pre-season test at Oschersleben. While the engineers were busy evaluating the data, the mechanics completely dismantled the two ABT Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars, meticulously checked all components and rebuilt the cars. Tuesday after Easter, a roll-out took place at the ‘ADAC Fahrsicherheitszentrum’ in Kempten before the two MAN transporters from ABT Sportsline set off for Oschersleben.

The two DTM races start on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 PM CEST. In German-speaking countries, the DTM will be broadcast live on ProSieben, Joyn and Servus TV in 2025 while the series can be watched live all around the world on TV and YouTube.
